The 1978 "May is Jazz Month" lineup, co-sponsored by LVJS and the Musicians'
Performance Trust Fund, Local #369, included a city hall lunch concert on the
3rd with singer Edie Aikels and the Jazz Machine.
The community college's weekend Festival of the Arts featured the Bill Geyer
Orchestra on the 6th and the Jay Cameron Sextet with Edie Aikels on the 7th.
The Garvin Bushell Quintet with singer Janice Carter played
on the 9th at 2 p.m. in Baker Park. On the 13th Carlsband played Nellis Air
Force Base and the Tender Trap jazz club hosted the Bob Pierson Quartet at 11
p.m. followed by the Bob Pierson Big Band at 2:30 a.m. Latin Jazz with Benny
Bennett's Big Band played South Meadows Park at 3:30 p.m. Eagle Eye
Shields Quartet and the West Las Vegas Four played the Doolittle Center
on the 15th.
The Rainbow Club (Henderson) presented the Royal Dixie Jazz Band, May 19. The
Frontier Hotel presented Jaxon Stock Big Band Sound and the Carl Saunders Sextet
the 21st. The Capricorns played the Flamingo Library on the 24th. Jazz-In-The-Park
included a long lineup of music at the Jazz Society Picnic at City View Park
on the 28th and the Rick Davis Sextet at Lorenzi Park May 29th, 1978.
